shutterstock_260934686Your outdoor space is where you entertain guests, relax on a nice day, and enjoy nature. For us here in sunny Naples, Florida, we end up spending a lot of our time there. Flooring plays a huge part in creating the atmosphere for this space, and there are many options to choose from. At Floor Coverings International of Naples, we want to help you find the best flooring type for your outdoor areas. Here are three different types of flooring that are stylish, durable, and great for patios and backyards.

Natural Stone

Natural stone is becoming one of the most popular flooring types used for outdoor spaces, and it comes as no surprise – it’s stylish, slip-resistant, and comes in a variety of colors and designs. Slate is the most commonly chosen stone for this type of environment, but other types can be used as well. Natural stone tiles are extremely durable, but are prone to cracks if they are not placed properly, so it’s advisable to hire a professional to install them for you.

Ceramic Tile

Ceramic tiling is another great option for your outdoor space. It tends to be less slip-resistant than natural stone, but there are plenty of non-slip treatments you can use to eliminate this problem. Ceramic tile doesn’t work well outside in cold climates, but because we are here in Florida that is not an issue. There are tons of styles available, just make sure that the tiles are designed for outdoor use.

Brick

While it may not be as glamorous as natural stone or ceramic tile, brick is a wonderful option for outdoor flooring. It’s durable, slip-resistant, and as low maintenance as it gets, and let’s be honest, who wants to spend more time doing yardwork? Though there aren’t as many colors or style varieties as other flooring options, you can arrange brick in beautiful patterns that add a unique feature to your backyard.
